Fashion week is fun to watch. Getting dressed on a Tuesday is a different story.

So we went through the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 shows and skipped the theatrics. No sheer everything. No outfits that need a stylist and a wind machine. Just the pieces real people can buy, wear and repeat.

Good news. There are a lot of them.

The quick answer

The 10 most wearable pieces from New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 are:

  1. The longer, relaxed blazer
  2. Straight-leg trousers
  3. The satin midi skirt
  4. The relaxed shirt
  5. The peplum top
  6. The ruffle blouse
  7. The effortless dress
  8. The short, lightweight parka
  9. The east-west bag
  10. One piece in a bright colour

1. The longer, relaxed blazer

The blazer got longer, softer and a lot less serious. Think hip length or beyond, a light nip at the waist, no stiff shoulders, and lightweight or slightly crinkled fabrics. Tibi showed exactly how easy it can look.

How to wear it: the trick with a longline blazer is balance. All that length up top needs some shape underneath. Throw it over a mini dress and it is instantly cute. Wearing trousers? Keep them straight or relaxed, never too skinny. It also looks great with tailored shorts and heels, and it is the easiest outfit in the world with jeans and a tank.

2. Straight-leg trousers

Not new, and that is exactly the point. The straight-leg trouser is staying for another round, now in light twills, linen and soft suiting fabrics with a mid or low waist. Eckhaus Latta kept them clean and simple.

How to wear it: with a tucked-in tee and flats for every day, or with the long blazer for work. Think 90s Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. A slouchy, low-slung trouser is so cool if you love that fit. More comfortable in a higher waist? Just as stylish, just as cute. Finish with slides or heels, and keep the top tucked. Full tuck, French tuck or very fitted, all great. If you only buy one thing from this list, make it the trouser.

3. The satin midi skirt

Satin moved firmly into the daytime. Midi lengths, a glossy finish and a slightly lower waist, worn with everyday pieces rather than saved for a night out. Sandy Liang, Diane von Furstenberg, Altuzarra, Tory Burch, Ralph Lauren and Cult Gaia all sent it down the runway.

How to wear it: satin is soft and slippery, so give it something with a bit of grit. A fitted knit, a crisp tee tucked in, a denim jacket or the longline blazer all do the job. Sandy Liang put hers under sporty jackets with a hot pink kitten heel, and it was the coolest thing on the runway. Get the length right too. Let the hem land below the widest part of your calf, not on it. Then finish with a kitten heel for day, flats or loafers for the weekend, or strappy heels when the sun goes down. Our slip skirt edit has plenty to choose from.

4. The relaxed shirt

The classic button-up loosened its collar. Wider cuts, a softer drape, and prints doing the decorating, especially stripes and florals.

How to wear it: a relaxed shirt is easy, but the rest of the outfit needs to be intentional, otherwise it can look sloppy. Roll the sleeves. Add a tuck, full or French. Then give it some structure underneath with tailored trousers or a sharp skirt, or layer the longline blazer over the top. It is also very cute with capris and a flat. Prefer plain? The white shirt still works.

5. The peplum top

The peplum is back, and it grew up. A fitted top that flares out from the waist, softer and far less fussy than the version you remember. Proenza Schouler gathered it asymmetrically at the hip, Khaite gave it a romantic flare under the bust, and Diotima and Ashlyn let it peek out from under jackets.

How to wear it: let the flare do the talking and keep everything underneath clean. Straight-leg trousers, slim jeans or the satin midi skirt all work. No tucking needed, the peplum is already doing the shaping for you. Throw the longline blazer over it for work, or wear it on its own with a flat sandal on the weekend.

6. The ruffle blouse

Ruffles came back with a lighter touch. A frill at the collar, a soft ruffle down the front, a trim along the hem. Ralph Lauren put one on a crisp cotton shirt collar, Khaite used them as contrast trims, and Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler, Diotima and Ashlyn all played with layered, sculptural versions.

How to wear it: one frilly thing at a time. Let the blouse be the pretty part and keep everything else sharp, with straight-leg trousers, jeans or a clean pencil skirt. Tuck it in so the waist stays defined, and skip the statement necklace, the ruffle is already doing that job. Add the longline blazer for work.

7. The effortless dress

The dress you will reach for more than any other, and it is all in the cut. A shape that comes in at the waist, falls to a longer length and moves when you do. Thin straps, sleeves or somewhere in between, it does not matter, as long as it is cut well. Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein Collection and Michael Kors Collection all made it look effortless.

How to wear it: a great dress is a wardrobe asset. Sometimes it pays to invest in a beautifully tailored cut, but a winner can just as easily be a $50 find. We do not discriminate on a great fit. A block colour will usually outlast the trends, and when you get this one right it works everywhere. Dress it up or down, wear it to work and straight through the weekend.

8. The short, lightweight parka

The lightweight parka has been gaining momentum for a while now, and it is not slowing down. It came shorter, lighter and in earthy shades, often with panels of different fabrics. Tommy Hilfiger, Sandy Liang, Khaite and Tanya Taylor all threw one over something pretty.

How to wear it: put it somewhere it does not belong. Over a mini dress, with capris, on top of something soft and pretty. The fun is in the clash, feminine pieces with a sporty layer, and that mix is exactly why this one keeps going.

9. The east-west bag

Bags went horizontal. Long, slim and worn close under the arm, the east-west shape turned up at Khaite, Michael Kors, Coach and Grace Ling. It is sleek, a little bit 90s and makes everything you wear look more considered.

How to wear it: tucked under the arm with a short strap, so it sits close to the body. It looks sharpest with clean lines, so try it with straight-leg trousers and a tee, the longline blazer or the effortless dress. Want more? Our east-west bag edit has the best ones to shop

10. One piece in a bright colour

New York was bright. Michael Kors, Tory Burch and Carolina Herrera went big on red, yellow, turquoise and avocado green, with softer lavender, light pink and pale yellow for anyone who prefers a whisper.

How to wear it: you do not need a head-to-toe look. One bright shirt, skirt or bag with your usual neutrals is plenty.

The bottom line

The best runway ideas are the ones you can wear on a Tuesday.

Longer blazer. Straight trousers. Satin skirt. East-west bag. Done.
