In a city obsessed with the new, we found a place that proves legacy is the ultimate luxury. Welcome to Jimmy’s Kitchen.
There are nights in Sydney that feel like pure magic. The air is balmy, the Opera House is putting on a show against the skyline, and the city feels alive with possibility. We had one of those nights recently, and it was at a place that has captured the very soul of Sydney: Jimmy’s Kitchen.

Tucked away in The Rocks, this family-owned gem isn’t about fleeting trends. It’s about something far more rare and beautiful: legacy. From the moment you step inside, you feel it. The sandstone walls whisper stories, the hospitality is genuinely warm, and you might even be served by an 83-year-old waiter who has been part of the Jimmy’s family for over 50 years. Fifty! In a city where restaurants come and go in a season, that’s a statement.
We were there for their “Australia Meets Greece” dinner, a four-course feast pairing modern Greek food with the standout wines of Small Forest. And what a pairing it was.

The Main Event: Food, Wine, and Opa!
The night started with Sydney Rock Oysters so fresh they tasted of the harbour, served with a zesty Ouzo Mignonette. Then came a buttery, flaky Spanakopita, followed by a Psari Plaki (baked black cod) that was so perfectly cooked it melted in your mouth. The main affair was a char-grilled striploin steak, cooked to perfection, and the meal ended with a fig and pistachio dessert that was a treat for the senses.
But the wine… the wine was a story in itself. Small Forest Wines is the creation of Atsuko Radcliffe, the first-ever Japanese female winemaker in both Japan and Australia. A true trailblazer. Her wines are fresh, delicious, and an absolute must-try for any wine buff. Each glass was a standout, a perfect conversation starter.
As the night went on, the energy grew. Live Greek music started playing, and before we knew it, the whole restaurant was swept up in the joy of it all, ending the evening with a collective “Opa!” and dancing. It was brilliant. It was fun. It was real.

The Verdict
This is more than just a restaurant review. This is a love letter to a Sydney institution. Jimmy’s Kitchen is a tribute to family, to legacy, and to the kind of old-school hospitality that never goes out of style. With its million-dollar view and a heart of gold, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to again and again. It’s not just a place to be seen; it’s a place to be.
Consider this secret officially out.
