Not a robe, not a suit. A strictly limited answer to the question of what to wear when the party is at yours.

The dinner party has loosened. Australians are entertaining at home more and formally less, which has left hosts in a small but real bind. Full tailoring is too much for a Sunday afternoon on the terrace. Loungewear is not quite enough when the doorbell goes. COMMAS and Woodford Reserve have made a garment for exactly that gap.

The Host Tux, launched 26 August in a strictly limited run, is a first for both houses. Cut from premium linen twill in a soft dune, it takes the classic notch lapel of a tuxedo and pairs it with the front tie borrowed from the signature COMMAS Robe. The result reads as tailoring from across the room and feels like a robe when you are carrying ice from the kitchen.

Not a robe. Not a suit. A bit of both.

Richard Jarman, founder and creative director, COMMAS

“You can always tell when a host is comfortable, the whole room relaxes with them. That’s really what this piece is for,” says Jarman. “The question we kept coming back to was what does this moment actually need? And for hosting at home, the answer was something in between.”

It is a natural pairing. COMMAS has built its reputation on Australian ease and considered resortwear since Jarman founded the label in 2017, the name itself a reference to the intentional pause. Woodford Reserve trades on craft of a different kind, distilled in Versailles, Kentucky, at a National Historic Landmark.

“At Woodford Reserve, we believe the best moments aren’t always the biggest celebrations. They’re often the casual get-togethers where friends come together over great conversation and a thoughtfully made drink,” says Eulalie Lazaro, Woodford Reserve brand manager at Brown-Forman. “Partnering with COMMAS gave us an unexpected way to champion modern hosting, inspiring Australians to elevate their next gathering through the details, from what they wear to what they pour.”

Every Host Tux comes with an exclusive offer on a bottle of Woodford Reserve, which is a tidy piece of thinking. Buy the outfit, sort the pour.

For anyone who believes hosting is an occasion worth dressing for, this is the uniform.
