Denim jeans in my humble opinion will always have a place in one’s wardrobe, the contending factor in all of this is what the style of the moment is and how can I wear it so we are not to look dated and out of fashion touch. Yes, styles come back around, sometimes in a hot minute and then sometimes decades later. Trends can be tricky to predict and in that case getting the style right for your shape on top of all of staying fashionably relevant can be where following exact trends from a picture or influencer can lead us into dangerous territory, leaving us as fashion roadkill or worst yet money wasted on something that purchased correctly could have resulted in a winning outfit. Let’s explore.

Triangle Shape

If your body shape sees, you with a triangle body shape you need to look at styles that have a higher waistline and then the wider or baggier leg that drops down from your hip, working with this will have the balance sitting right. Depending on if your torso is long and your legs shorter, you can fudge the waistline to creep a little higher, if necessary, I like to aim for the belly button or slightly higher if needed. Do not, I repeat do not buy jeans that have a wash around the thighs, opt for one tone across the denim. High waisted and one colour.

Inverted Triangle

A body shape with wider shoulders than hips is a style that needs some consideration in the leg. The general rule of an inverted triangle shape will mean your legs are your best asset! Why on earth would you want to cover them up with a baggy style you ask? The way to approach the baggy jean trend is by keeping it minimal baggy. Ensure the fit of your baggy or wide jean is fitted in top, especially around your booty, once you have this fit the leg can do its thing as it will never be wider than you need. Any kind of wash will work on you and could even enhance some curves if that’s what you are looking for! Enjoy this trend thoroughly!

Rectangle

This trend, like your inverted triangle friends above, is an easy and flattering style on you. You can’t go too wrong with options in both width, wash and colour, keeping it balanced on top and ensuring you don’t look to top heavy would be something to keep in mind, a cute little French tuck will sort that issue out in a minute or opting for a pointed shoe with give some shape to your look!

Hourglass

Contending with curves is your life. Coming from someone who is a curvy girl, I understand, so getting cuts and styles right can be a mission at times. Your best styles for the baggy to wide jean look is to go for higher waist like Triangle above, a French tuck like Rectangle and keep the wash to one tone only so as not to create more “curves”. Ensure the fit is good around bottom area and don’t go too oversized, you’ll end up looking like you’re wearing your someone else’s (someone who is bigger than you) clothes, keep it fitted.

All in all this is a cool trend and one that is super wearable. Team looks with tshirts, more denim, sheer tops, chunky bangles, pointy heels and a cute little bag.
