Some brand events are about product.

This one was about women.

Style Machine attended

Style Confidence Breakfast, a beautiful morning dedicated to something much bigger than deodorant: what it really means for women to feel confident in what they wear.

And the answer was surprisingly emotional.

Because confidence, as NIVEA’s new national research revealed, is not always about the perfect outfit, the latest trend or the piece everyone else is wearing. More often, it starts much earlier than that. It starts with whether your clothes feel comfortable. Whether they smell fresh. Whether they fit. Whether you can move through the day without quietly worrying about sweat, odour or stains taking over the moment.

That is what made the breakfast feel so thoughtful. NIVEA did not just talk about style confidence as a glossy idea. The brand went deeper, looking at the small, private wardrobe decisions women make every day. The clothes bought but never worn. The pieces left hanging because they feel too risky. The safe outfits on rotation. The little calculations nobody really talks about, but so many women understand instantly.

According to NIVEA’s Style Confidence Report, 91% of Australian women own clothes they have never worn. For 40% of them, the reason is confidence. That is not a small wardrobe problem. That is a very real emotional one.

It is also why the conversation felt so relevant for Style Machine. We talk about fashion all the time, but the truth is style does not begin with what is trending. It begins with whether a woman feels good enough, safe enough and comfortable enough to actually wear what she already owns.

The research also found that what builds confidence is far more practical than many people assume. While trends ranked low, comfort, scent and fit were the real confidence drivers. Women said they feel their best when their clothing is comfortable, when it smells good and when it fits well.

That is where NIVEA’s Black & White range sits so naturally in the conversation. It is not about changing a woman’s style. It is about helping her trust it. Helping her reach for the black dress, the white shirt, the silk top, the blazer, the piece she loves but does not always feel brave enough to wear.

Because underarm marks, odour and stains are not glamorous topics, but they are real. And for many women, they quietly shape what gets worn and what stays in the wardrobe.

At the breakfast, guests heard from stylist Jessica Pecoraro, beauty and style editor Leigh Campbell, and NIVEA General Manager Marketing & eCommerce Kate Hensley, with the conversation centred on what gives women confidence in the everyday moments that matter.

What stood out most was how human the findings were.

NIVEA’s research found that 7 in 10 women say sweat, odour or underarm stains have knocked their confidence in what they wear. It also found that 88% say feeling confident about what they are wearing makes them feel empowered to take on the day.

That is the real story.

Confidence is not vanity. It is freedom. It is walking into work without adjusting your outfit every five minutes. It is hugging someone without thinking twice. It is wearing the white shirt. It is choosing the black dress. It is trusting that the clothes you love will still feel good at 3pm.

For a brand as iconic as NIVEA, the breakfast was a reminder that longevity comes from listening. The brand has been part of women’s routines for generations, but this felt like proof that it is still paying attention to what women actually need now.

Not what looks good in a campaign.

What matters in real life.

The Black & White Style Confidence Breakfast celebrated confidence not as something loud or performative, but as something deeply personal. The kind that begins before anyone else sees the outfit. The kind that lets women open their wardrobes and choose with a little more ease.

And sometimes, that is exactly what great beauty does.

It gives women one less thing to worry about, so they can get on with feeling like themselves.
