In a beauty landscape obsessed with instant results and viral ingredients, Kiki Abouchakra is playing the long game. The founder of Chakra Intelligent Skin, the longevity skin clinic with locations in Bondi and Melbourne, has spent more than a decade building a loyal community around a refreshingly patient philosophy: expert care, smart thinking and a little love, letting the natural intelligence of your skin truly shine.

It’s an approach that feels more relevant than ever. As peptides dominate the conversation online and GHK-Cu becomes the buzziest acronym in wellness circles, Kiki has quietly been working with the ingredient topically in clinic for years, long before the world caught up. For this edition of Taste Maker Chronicles, we sat down with Kiki to talk intelligent skin, the lost art of patience, the peptide hype cycle and the one skin myth she’d love to retire forever.

Chakra Skin talks about “intelligent skin” rather than quick fixes. What does intelligent skin mean to you, and how does that change the way you treat people in clinic?

“At Chakra Skin, we believe in intelligent skin, that every skin deserves expert care, smart thinking and a little love. With the right approach, the natural intelligence of your skin can truly shine. In practice, this means working with your skin, not against it. We always treat the barrier first and advance to other levels when the time is right. It’s a considered, layered process rather than a reactive one.”

Beauty has become very fast: instant results, viral ingredients, before-and-after culture. Do you think we have lost patience with our skin?

“Absolutely. We have become so obsessed with quick fixes that we have forgotten the skin is the largest organ in the human body. Products can generally take up to eight weeks to fully kick in, and during that time things like purging can happen. We always say celebrate the purge but unfortunately, that discomfort and lack of patience often leads people to abandon ship and jump onto the next thing before they have given anything a real chance.”

Your philosophy is built around expert care, patience, skin health and “lots of love”. How do you balance that nurturing approach with the demand for visible results?

“Our skin consultation process is the most important part of the journey. That time allows us to learn as much as we can about a client’s skin, history, lifestyle and goals. It’s also where we set clear expectations around results and those expectations are shaped by the pace the client wants to work at. Some prefer a slower, more methodical approach while others want to be in the fast lane. Both are valid, we just make sure everyone knows what to expect.”

Longevity is one of the biggest conversations in beauty right now. What does longevity skin actually look like beyond the buzzword?

“For us, it means truly respecting your skin and your body. Don’t get me wrong, life is about living and having a great time! But longevity goes well beyond what we put on our skin topically. It’s about educating our clients as thoroughly as we can, teaching them to read their skin, to notice the signs, and to understand what their skin is telling them. It means having strong, healthy and happy skin in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.”

Peptides are having a major moment, especially online. What do you think people are getting wrong about the peptide conversation?

“The biggest misconception is that peptides are a quick fix. They’re not and the results depend enormously on the quality of the product and the guidance behind it. Not all peptides are equal, and not all sources are trustworthy. You really need to be guided by the right professionals about what you need, what form is best for your skin, and where you’re purchasing from. The conversation online moves fast and can oversimplify something that is genuinely nuanced.”

GHK-Cu is being talked about heavily in wellness circles, often around injectables. From your perspective, why does topical GHK-Cu deserve more attention?

“We love topical GHK. We have been lucky enough to work with topical products that contain it, and we have seen it make a real difference to the hydration and strength of the skin. It is fantastic for reducing redness and inflammation, and the best part is that it can be used daily. We have seen wonderful results and no injection required.”

You have worked with GHK-Cu in clinic for years. What makes it different from other ingredients that become fashionable for a moment and then disappear?

“GHK has been around for years and is currently making headlines again and for good reason. It has an impressive portfolio of benefits that feel incredibly relevant to our modern world, where people’s skin is more reactive, inflamed and sensitised than ever. It’s an ingredient that has been clinically proven to address all of that. Does it deserve the attention it’s getting? Absolutely. The difference between GHK and a passing trend is that the science has always been there, it just took the world a little longer to catch up.”

What is one skin myth you would love to retire forever?

“There are a few, but the one I keep coming back to is this: if it works for someone else, it will work for you. It won’t necessarily, skin is deeply individual. What delivers results for one person can be completely wrong for another. That myth is one of the main reasons people end up overwhelmed and frustrated, chasing someone else’s routine instead of understanding their own skin.”

Chakra Skin has built a loyal community over more than a decade. What do you think people are really looking for when they come to you: better skin, more confidence, education, care, or all of it?

“All of it, honestly. I think many new clients come to us because they know we are genuinely invested in education and skin health. They are looking for clear direction and someone to help them cut through all the noise. The most beautiful thing is watching a client blossom, when they start to see the results and feel so much more confident in themselves. That transformation is why we do what we do.”

Taste Maker Chronicles is about people shaping culture through instinct, expertise and point of view. What do you think your approach to skin is ultimately trying to protect?

“That your skin is a clear reflection of what is happening inside you. For long-term results, it needs to be approached holistically, with awareness of your gut health, your mindset, your lifestyle. Skin is not just a surface. It tells a story, and our job is to help you understand and honour that story.”
