We chit chat with Chloe, the visionary founder of Nala Lingerie, she opens up about her journey from frustrated shopper to founder of a brand that blends comfort, sustainability, and bold design. Chloe dives into the inspiration behind Nala’s creations, the meticulous process behind each piece, and why lingerie should reflect a woman’s unique personality. From the viral wirefree bralette to the empowering maternity collection, discover how Nala is redefining the lingerie game and making every woman feel confident in her own skin. Now, Nala Lingerie is exclusively available at David Jones, bringing this game-changing brand to even more women across Australia.

1. Nala Lingerie is all about empowering women and celebrating their individuality. What inspired you to start the brand, and how did you set out to bring this vision to life?

The insipration for the brand came from a personal experience, shopping for underwear and finding nothing that caught my eye and ticked the boxes of comfy, cool, sustainable and affordable. On a deeper dive, we really felt that the Aussie lingerie industry lacked diverse representation and also lacked fun! Too many beige and stale brands out there, we knew we could do it better!

2. When selecting lingerie designs, what’s your approach to balancing elegance with comfort, and how do you ensure every piece makes women feel confident?

When women wear products that make them feel good, they are going to feel confident. And that’s what Nala is all about. Designing a Nala bra can take a year, we go through stringent designing processes, sampling, test wearing and feedback rounds before we press go on a launch. It means that each product is made with exceptional quality and will last for years. But of course, we inject that Nala edge into every product too!

3. Can you share a Nala Lingerie piece that holds a special place in your heart, either for its personal significance or because it embodies the essence of the brand?

I’d have to say our two maternity bras. After a long fertility struggle, I was lucky enough to welcome a beautiful baby into the world in May 2024, so being able to design and wear a maternity bra was incredibly special to me. I took this assignment very seriously and designed products that were functionally faultless but also chic and elevated. My maternity bras are well worn after wearing them for the past 9 months!

4. What is one lingerie piece from Nala you can’t live without, and why does it stand out to you?

Oh! Don’t make me pick one! I’m breaking the rules and picking two. The first is the Support Wirefree Bralette, there’s a reason it’s gone viral. It’s super comfy, lifts and supports boobs up to J cup and all without wire. The other is our Strapless Underwire Bra, which I lived in all summer. To put it bluntly, it’s the most comfortable strapless bra in the market, there I said it!

5. You’re known for your attention to detail and creative process. How do you begin crafting a new collection, and what’s your thought process behind selecting materials, styles, and cuts?

We listen to customer requests and feedback obsessively, it’s always the first step in crafting a new collection. For example, we were getting a heap of requests for styles catering to smaller busts and that lead to our Dynamo collection. Our materials have to be yummy to touch, but also be a more sustainable choice. Then when it comes to perfecting the style and cut, we develop a concept and spend months perfecting this for maximum fit, comfort and support.

6. What advice would you give women on styling their lingerie to feel both chic and confident while also incorporating elements of their personal style?

My advice is to play with colour, avoid always opting for black or beige. It’s amazing what a red bra can do for you.

7. Looking ahead, what trends in lingerie and fashion do you think will define the next five years, and how is Nala Lingerie embracing them?

We don’t really follow trends! For us, we’ll just keep making products that solve problems for our customers. Like a strapless bra that’s actually comfortable or a wirefree bra that actually supports big boobs.

8. For someone new to Nala, which piece from your collection should they try first to fully experience the essence of the brand?

That’s like picking a favourite child! I just can’t! But if you’re forcing me I’d say the Mesh Comfort Wirefree Bralette is the dark horse of the collection. Never met someone who hasn’t fallen in love after trying it on.

9. What’s one key piece of advice you’d offer to anyone looking to launch their own fashion brand, especially in the lingerie industry?

Listen to your customers and what they want, solve problems for them through your product and market that! Also for those who want to get into lingerie, make sure your products are comfy af, nobody wants to wear uncomfy undies.
