I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Ouzo Restaurant, the newest Mediterranean-inspired gem in Darlinghurst, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Brought to life by restaurateurs David Cooper and Brett Ayton, this culinary experience is one you don’t want to miss.

From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by the vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant’s chic design truly transports you to a Mediterranean escape, right in the heart of Darlinghurst, where the alfresco dining scene brings a distinct Melbourne vibe.
The menu, crafted by Chef Ignacio Morales, is a true celebration of Mediterranean flavors. I attended the special event on Wednesday, October 23, where the three-course menu was nothing short of spectacular. The highlight of the evening was the MBS 7-8 Tajima Wagyu sirloin – hands down the best steak I’ve ever had – perfectly cooked over a charcoal and woodfire mix, with a luscious Pedro Ximénez reduction and delicate chives. It’s a dish you’ll be thinking about long after you leave. The evening began with delicious dips and freshly baked pita that set the tone, and the lamb that followed was so tender it fell apart as soon as the fork touched it.

Pairing the meal were expertly curated wines and cocktails, each complementing the flavors beautifully. Their signature cocktail, Ya ya, is a must-try, and their wine list, curated by a mysterious expert from Icebergs, added an extra touch of exclusivity to the evening. And don’t even get me started on the halva cheesecake – it’s an unforgettable dessert that rounds out the meal perfectly.
Ouzo’s service is top-notch, with a friendly and attentive staff who ensure every detail is just right. They also have Tommys down the road and Tommys in Manly, so they know a thing or two about running a great restaurant. Their hospitality is truly impeccable.

Nestled in Darlinghurst’s lively restaurant scene, Ouzo has that laid-back yet buzzing vibe that reminded me of Melbourne’s Fitzroy. It’s the perfect spot for a casual yet elevated dining experience.

If you’re in the mood for great food, stellar service, and a dining experience that takes you on a journey to the Mediterranean, Ouzo Restaurant is the place to be. I highly recommend booking a table – you won’t be disappointed!
