You pride yourself on wearing what makes you feel good and putting it all together, who are your favourite brands?
My favorite way to curate my closet is via textiles and silhouettes instead of brands. I do a lot of vintage and secondhand shopping and find that my favorite pieces are an assortment of vintage labels.
How do you encourage people when they say something like, I wish I could dress like her?
I LOVE to breathe life into friends who are new to dopamine dressing! I tell them to start small with just ONE of their favorite items and to recall how it made them feel to wear that piece that day. If they feel good, they organically do it again the next day and slowly they start adding to their “dopamine infused look” and it becomes part of their routine which happens all on its own.
Who or what is your style inspiration?
OMG. I have a few that immediately come to mind; Iris Apfel, who said “when you stop having fun getting dressed you might as well be dead.” My second icon is Elton John. I love how he’s unabashedly himself and dressed for HIMSELF and stays true to himself via his fashion choices.
In a world on neutrals, you embrace colour and prints. What advice would you give about buying and styling everything together?
GO TOWARD WHAT DRAWS YOU IN. I find my favorite pieces are the ones I naturally find appealing on the rack. When combing my pieces, I try to stick with what makes my eyes dance the most; pattern mixing, textile differences (tulle +sequins), but you can ALWAYS expect me to wear my favorite GEMS. From my hair gems, to my earrings, to a ring on every finger, gems bring an outfit to life for me.
What is one fashion trend you absolutely love, even if it goes in and out of style?
I LOVE MICRO BAGS! The smaller, the better! The less that fits, the more fun it is for me to style. A micro bag is a tiny way to make a huge statement and I love collecting them and finding new ways to style them.
Do you think you can achieve Dopamine Dressing in a professional capacity?
Absolutely! If you find that your 9-5 doesn’t allow you to express yourself via your clothing (scrubs, a uniform, etc.) LEAN INTO YOUR JEWELRY! When I worked a 9-5 job, my favorite way to express myself was through my accessories and it brought me immense joy.
How do you see accessories playing as part in styling an outfit?
I like to think of a “look” like a cupcake; you are the cupcake, your clothes are the icing and your accessories are the SPRINKLES! A cupcake isn’t a cupcake without sprinkles.
Are there days you go plain dressing? What does this look like for you?
Yes, some days I wan’t to stay in my pajamas; but you’d better believe my pajamas are covered in smiley faces and my fluffy slippers are made of mongolian fur. No matter what, comfy or elevated; my outfit is dopamine infused.
What is your favourite item in your wardrobe and what’s the story behind why?
My favorite item in my wardrobe is my gems. I created my jewelry line, Feed Me Gems, during the height of the pandemic as a way of channeling my inner colors into something beautiful and build a brand at my kitchen table. My brand has grown and adapted and changed and become a space full of sparkle, kindness, dopamine, encouragement and joy for my community around the globe. We ship worldwide and I’ve met some of the most incredible souls through my gems. My gems are a means of connection for me; a compliment generator at the coffee shop, a conversation starter for fellow gem lovers and a movement of inner and outer sparkle for my customers all over the world. They are so much more than jewelry pieces to me.
And finally, what do you think some of the hot trends of 2024 are going to be, anything we should invest in?
I think the hottest trend of 2024 is going to be throwing fashion trends to the wind and dressing for ourselves via dopamine dressing. Dopamine Dressing has changed my life, my outlook and my level of daily joy in a way that I can’t help but share from the rooftops with anyone who has ears to hear it! I hope this trend takes the market by STORM in 2024.
