From my perspective, a great outfit is a masterful blend of attention to detail and personal expression. When I encounter an outfit that makes me pause and say ‘wow!’, it’s usually because the wearer has meticulously considered how each part of their outfit complements their individual style and personality. Sadly, truly striking fashion moments like this are a rarity, particularly here in Sydney. This observation motivated me to establish StyledByBhav in 2021, my styling business, with the intention of encouraging individuals to explore beyond the confines of what Australian fashion often lacks: innovation, self-expression and excellence. In summary, I would say that while fashion is inherently subjective, what truly defines a standout outfit for me is the confidence it radiates and its ability to captivate attention with its unique aura

What is one fashion trend you absolutely love, even if it goes in and out of style?

One fashion trend that I consistently embrace, regardless of its cyclic nature, is the timeless appeal of vintage fashion. Retro silhouettes and vintage elements instil a unique charm and character into any outfit. Not only does wearing vintage pieces allow for personal style expression, but it also promotes sustainability by reducing the demand for new clothing production.

As we strive to minimise our environmental footprint, rewearing vintage pieces becomes not just a fashion statement but also a conscious choice towards a more eco-friendly wardrobe. By choosing pre-loved garments, we extend their lifecycle, diverting them from landfills and mitigating the environmental impact associated with textile manufacturing.

In addition to its environmental benefits, vintage fashion also holds cultural significance, offering a window into previous eras of fashion. These unique vintage finds often challenge my creativity and push me out of my fashion comfort zone, inspiring experimentation and innovative styling approaches that set me apart from mainstream fashion trends.

The item in my wardrobe that holds the most profound significance for me is my Kara, which is a religious bracelet worn by Sikhs and shows your devotion to the religion. Sikhism is the faith of my family, and this particular Kara has a deeply personal story behind it.

It originally belonged to my father, who unfortunately passed away last year after battling pancreatic cancer. His strength, kindness, and unwavering love continue to inspire me every day. After his passing, I made the decision to replace my own Kara with his, wearing it as a constant reminder of his presence in my life and the profound impact he had on me.

Wearing my father’s Kara serves as a tangible connection to him, a symbol of his enduring spirit and the values he instilled in me. It’s a daily reminder that he is always with me, guiding me and watching over me. I wear it with a sense of pride and purpose, knowing that I carry his legacy forward in everything I do.

My father was my superhero, an embodiment of kindness, selflessness, and unconditional love. If I can live my life even half as graciously and compassionately as he did, I know I will have fulfilled my purpose.

Every time I glance down at my wrist and see his Kara, I am reminded of the immense love and strength he taught me.

While I may not consider myself the most devout individual, I deeply respect the religious convictions that were integral to my father’s life. Despite my occasional doubts and questions about the existence of a higher power, I hold immense reverence for the faith that was so deeply ingrained in my father’s being. His unwavering commitment to his religious beliefs served as a source of strength and guidance for him, and I honour that legacy by acknowledging and respecting his devoutness. Though our perspectives on spirituality may differ, I carry forward his profound reverence for his faith as a testament to the values and principles he held dear.

As a busy designer, stylist and influencer, what’s your go-to outfit for a day when you want to feel both comfortable and stylish?

I’m constantly on the move so finding the perfect balance between comfort and style is essential for my day-to-day activities. My go-to outfit for such occasions revolves around the concept of oversized everything. It’s all about embracing comfort without compromising on style.

When the weather is warmer, I often opt for a chic oversized button-up shirt. Its breezy silhouette keeps me cool and comfortable throughout the day while still maintaining a polished look. On colder days, I love layering with a statement coat to add a touch of sophistication to my outfit while staying cozy and warm.

Variety is key for me, so I make it a point not to wear the same thing every day. Switching up my outfits allows me to keep my creativity flowing and continuously challenge myself to come up with new and exciting looks.

I firmly believe in the power of trousers to elevate any outfit. Their versatility and timeless appeal are evident in the curated looks showcased on my Instagram. Unlike denim, which can feel constricting to me, trousers offer both style and comfort. Their diverse silhouettes complement my height better, allowing me to move freely without compromising on elegance.

When it comes to footwear, comfort takes precedence, especially considering my large shoe size. Standing tall at 196cm (6’5″) with a size 46EU, I prioritise shoes that offer ample support and cushioning to accommodate my stature. That’s why I frequently wear pairs like my Yeezy Waverunners, they feel like walking on clouds, allowing me to remain very comfortable and stylish throughout the day.

By embracing oversized silhouettes, incorporating versatile pieces such as trousers, and prioritising comfort with footwear like the Yeezy Waverunners, I’m able to curate an outfit that effortlessly combines comfort and style, allowing me to look effortless and tackle the day with confidence.

When it comes to my style inspiration, I draw from a myriad of sources rather than being inspired by just one individual. My influences span across various realms including anime, video games, movies, rap music, high fashion runways, and TV shows. It’s the diverse tapestry of these influences that fuels my creativity and underscores the power of fashion.

I find inspiration everywhere I look, constantly seeking new ideas and perspectives to broaden my style repertoire. Whether it’s observing a stylish woman on the street effortlessly wearing a coat in a unique way or studying the innovative accessorising techniques showcased in runway shows like Amiri or Casablanca, I’m always eager to learn and adapt.

For me, fashion is about experimentation and evolution. I believe there are endless possibilities when it comes to styling a particular garment, and I’m committed to embracing that diversity. Every encounter with a fresh perspective or unconventional approach to fashion serves as a valuable lesson, propelling me to continuously refine and redefine my personal style.

To truly embody style, one must dress in a manner that authentically reflects their personality, interests, aspirations and lifestyle. Your wardrobe should serve as a canvas for expressing your unique identity, incorporating elements that resonate with your individuality. Each person in this world is inherently different, and style provides a platform for celebrating that diversity through fashion.

It’s important to dispel the notion that style is synonymous with extravagance or exorbitant spending.
