Posey has been working in hair salons honing her skills since she was 14 years old and specialises in both colouring and cutting. Today, running a successful Melbourne salon, we ask Posey her favourite hair tips and trends for 2024.

  1. What are some of the key haircut trends for 2024, and how are they influenced by current fashion and cultural movements?

I’m finding that today girls and women have such a strong sense of their own style and what works for them. So they really take charge of their look rather than leaning too much into current trends. However the rich girl aesthetic with a 90s twist is definitely popular at the moment, think a feminine look with big bouncy blow waves. Also the ‘mob wife’ – a trend towards darker shades to achieve that rich glossy brunette style.

  1. Are there any particular hairstyles that are gaining popularity on fashion runways or among celebrities this year?

I think by the end of this year we’ll see a move towards the side part and side fringe and the sweeping fringe across one side of the face. I’ve seen this on a few celebrities including the Kardashians, Zendaya and even Selena Gomez. I might even give it a go! The middle parting has been around for so long, and it can be harsh on some face shapes.

  1. How are hair accessories evolving in 2024, and what statement pieces or trends should clients consider incorporating into their hairstyles?

Bows are still everywhere, and you can work them into any style of hair. Everyone from our retired clients to my young girls can wear them. My brand Bompies has pretty velvet bows to add to a ponytail or finish off a plait. People are also understanding that using heated styling tools excessively can damage the hair, so they are getting in the habit of sleeping in silk accessories that style the hair and prolong a blow dry. At Bompies we have a towel wrap to lift your hair off your face when doing makeup, and a shower cap to keep hair styles going for days.

  1. In terms of hair textures and lengths, what are some versatile options that can easily transition between different fashion looks or occasions?

Long soft layers are always my favourite. They are so versatile – you can have a wave, straighten your hair, get a great bouncy blow wave and pull it up into a great pony with a bow. This style is great for every day and special occasions.

  1. Are there any unique hair styling techniques or artistic approaches that you’re experimenting with in your salon to keep up with the cutting-edge of fashion trends?

Since last year we have been playing around with the Scandi hairline – bleaching the hair around the face line to give amazing lightness around the complexion. It looks fantastic but it’s an artistic style I would only recommend for clients that have the time for regular touch-ups, as the regrowth can be hard to manage!

  1. What are your top tips on keeping hair in its very best condition?

My first tip would be to always wash your hair twice – the first shampoo will rinse out any environmental factors and product build-up and the next lather will fully cleanse the hair. There’s a reason we double-shampoo in the salon! Always use conditioner after washing, towelling off excess moisture before applying it to the hair so that it can really soak in. And commit to using a deep conditioning treatment like a masque once week – this will give your hair a big hit of hydration and continue to nourish and protect it between washes.
