The brand is celebrated for its unique aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the treasure troves of vintage markets and Jana’s adventures across the globe. With a distinctive collection that features ethereal blouses, flowing skirts, and flared dresses, KACHEL captivates fashion enthusiasts with paisley designs, intricate floral patterns, and vivid tie-dye creations. We chat with founder Jana Kachel about all things fashion and style.
Since starting KACHEL in 2007, what inspired you to uniquely blend art with fashion in your brand?
In 2007, when I started KACHEL, my inspiration stemmed from personally creating prints that drew inspiration from the world around me. My creativity was and is still fueled by an unwavering passion for crafting unique print designs. Even today, designing prints remains my favorite part of the job, serving as the muse that propels KACHEL forward. The fusion of these distinct print designs, coupled with vibrant colors, stands as the driving force behind the brand’s continued evolution.
What has inspired this latest collection?
The latest collection, titled “ESSENCE of Love,” Is designed to capture the various facets of love. Delving into the moments of passionate intensity to tender moments, the collection takes inspiration from the picturesque settings of Santa Cruz in Spain and Djerba in Tunisia. Each piece from the collection represents a unique love story, harmonising artistry with the scenic landscapes that fuelled this collection’s creation.
What do you believe are the elements that make the perfect dress?
To me the perfect dress combines a flawless fit, enduring quality, and timeless charm that boosts the wearer’s confidence. These elements come together to create a garment that goes beyond passing trends and remains stylish for a long time.
What initiatives or practices has KACHEL adopted to contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry?
At KACHEL we acknowledge the environmental impact of our industry, we are committing to be more responsible by creating consciously and valuing quality over quantity. We produce smaller collections which are meticulously designed for longevity. We also are incorporating eco-friendly materials like ecovero, natural fibers & recycled materials. When you order from KACHEL your item’s are always delivered in compostable packaging, promoting a non-toxic and biodegradable alternative to plastic to minimize our ecological footprint. We are always thinking of ways to make more sustainability improvements at KACHEL.
How would you describe KACHEL in terms of fashion and style?
KACHEL has unique handwriting, at its core is all about prints and colours. The brand acknowledges fashion trends without being dictated by them. The emphasis lies in timeless silhouettes that seamlessly transition from casual to elevated, reflecting a style that is both versatile and enduring.
What future direction are you most excited about for the brand?
We’re thrilled about the future at KACHEL, where we’re actively exploring fresh sustainable fabrics, captivating prints that our devoted KACHEL lovers will adore, and introducing new silhouettes alongside our timeless classics. What is one item in your wardrobe you can’t live without?
Undoubtedly, my go-to wardrobe essential is the KACHEL slip dress. Its remarkable versatility and comfort make it an absolute favorite, effortlessly taking me from the morning school drop-offs to business meetings and dinner engagements. It looks great on everyone! Outside of KACHEL it would have to be my Isabel Marant sandals because they go with all my print dresses.
How do you typically dress on a casual day off, do you mix pieces?
On my days off, comfort and practicality is important, especially with young kids in the picture. Despite the relaxed vibe, I still take pride in the joy of mixing and matching prints, injecting a touch of personal flair into my casual ensembles always.
If you were to style a KACHEL outfit for different occasions, how would you style it up or down?
Elevate a KACHEL dress with an oversized blazer and heels for a polished, sophisticated look. On the flip side, dress it down effortlessly with sandals and a vintage denim jacket, striking the perfect balance between casual and chic.
What are your style predictions for 2024 and beyond, and how might they influence future KACHEL collections?
