‘It is such a joy to watch modern women interpret my designs in their own, inspired way. Mixing, matching and manipulating pieces to work with what their wants and needs that day’.
Where do you find inspiration for your collections?
All collections are authentic autobiographies of my life.
Every season is interwoven with feelings of nostalgia authentic to the past, present and future; an evolving story made defined by iconic pieces – or characters – designed to deliver an underlying sense of integrity, honesty, and humility. This narrative is constant and offers a solid foundation for me to build from. The idiosyncrasies from season-to–season are led by sources including art, architecture, historical periods, nature, cultural trends, and my own adventures around the world.
It’s a dynamic process that involves staying attuned to evolving preferences and incorporating diverse influences. Embracing a multidimensional approach helps me craft unique and engaging themes that our followers love to be part of.
What is your go to outfit for a workday?
This is largely led by location. If I’m in Bali, it’s a breezy S/W/F wide leg pant and cotton singlet. Loose and lightweight natural fibres that wear well in the heat. When in LA, I gravitate towards refined essentials such as the Desiree Deravi oversized white shirt paired with a tailored pant or skirt from the range.
How do you see people styling your brand to make it their own?
It is such a joy to watch modern women interpret my designs in their own, inspired way. Mixing, matching and manipulating pieces to work with what their wants and needs that day. Most S/W/F pieces are a statement on their own, so we watch on as our followers choose their own, unique accessory/footwear code for the agenda at hand. Most S/W/F designs can be dressed for daywear or special occasions, and I love to see them transition across both. Desiree Deravi is all about elevated essentials. They bring an instant sense of chic, wherever you are, and I love to see how our community layer up and down for their respective climate. This assures me we are meeting the concept seasonless dressing.
Your prints are always so cool, how would you describe a great print?
Prints are emotional, they should ignite a feeling in the wearer and observer alike. A great print is defined by captivating design, vibrant colours, and meticulous attention to detail. Together, this creates a visually striking and memorable composition.
What are 3 staples you have in your wardrobe that go across many outfits?
The Desiree Deravi Wide Sleeveless Shirt. A must for any capsule closet, this hits power mode for business meetings, and feels effortless yet chic at events. Pair with your favourite denim for a polished daywear look.
The S/W/F Meeting Point Two Way Midi. A best seller from our Sweet Disposition story, this monochrome piece works year-round. Style with a chunky sandal, pumps or a slouchy boot for the cool. The Desiree Deravi Black Tailored Pant. Every woman needs these! The definition of essential, these lightweight linen pants travel with me everywhere. Style with a bikini top for the beach, the black linen vest for 9-to-5 or the matching bustier for your next night out.
What trends do you see being incorporated into your designs in 2024?
We resist trends and honour our promise of timeless designs that live-on forever. We create pieces you can wear on repeat, put away and re-discover two seasons later. Eternal prints and considered silhouettes that work year-on-year.
Who or what is your fashion inspo?
Women are my inspiration, always. Each a work of art with their own unique texture, colour and composition. Woman is wild and powerful, and I hope to inspire her with my designs.
In a world of fast fashion why do you believe its important to slow fashion down?
Slow fashion promotes sustainability, ethical practices, and a focus on quality over quantity. It encourages mindful consumption, reducing environmental impact and supporting fair labour conditions. Prioritising durable, timeless pieces fosters a more responsible and conscious approach to clothing, countering the negative effects of fast fashion on both the planet and industry workers.
What advice can you give people when shopping your brands?
Purchase for yourself, no-one else. For S/W/F, choose colours and prints that spark a little joy inside, and for Desiree Deravi, invest in the woman you want to be.
